John Lewis was a genuine American hero and moral leader who commanded widespread respect. The American politician and civil rights leader served in the United States House of Representatives for Georgia's 5th congressional district from 1987 until his death in 2020. Lewis was also an iconic figure in the civil rights movement and he served as the Chairman of the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee from 1963 to 1966.
